Wolfman a Gogos

Hey guys, I'm sure there are several readers of this site much more au fait with horror and it's history than me, and I'll admit that I hadn't heard of an artist named Basil Gogos. Supposedly regarded as something of a living legend he did some well-regarded classically styled posters of the Universal monsters in days gone by, well Chud.com has an exclusive image, brand newly created by Mr Gogos for the new Wolfman, and it is well worth checking out, especially if this sort of thing floats your boat, I know you're out there film and horror historians and lovers, so follow the link here

Is There A Horror Film In 2010 You're Looking Forward To?

Yes, of course there is! Probably plenty, but I'm only just catching up with the news so there'll be a lot of them I don't yet know about. However, The Wolfman is coming soon though (Feb 12th US?) and Daybreakers (maybe a decent vampire film) could be worth a watch.

As you all know, I'm not always the most mainstream of horror film viewer so I'm looking for something a little more interesting to scare the nights away with. Tony looks like a decent British indie slasher, whilst from last year I'm still keen to see The Box, if not keen enough to have went to the cinema in the first place.

An interesting trend to notice is that there's two similar horror/fantasy pieces due in 2010, Black Death (Sean Bean - looks like Boromir is out again) and Season Of The Witch (Nicholas Cage). Both include a witch, some sorcery and some fantasy sword play. Should be excellent!

Apparition - Dark Castle Entertainment - is being talked up for 2010 and sounds like it could be worth a watch, though whether you believe the 'based on a true story' thing is up to you.

My own personal massive recommendation is to, if you can, get hold of The Christmas Tale. I've probably mentioned it before, but it's one of the strangest, most disturbing things you'll see. The film stars Ivana Baquero of Pan's Labyrinth fame. To say more would be an injustice. Go see! In the meantime, I'm off to see if there's anything scary on demand.

Who's afraid?

Hey guys. I know I have been following this before but thought you might like to check out the latest trailer for Joe Johnston's Wolfman remake.

Loving the old school look and feel of the piece, a potentially great homage to the original universal monster classics that has a lot of people excited. The acting for the most part looks excellent even if Hopkins veers dangerously close to cheesy and his old Van Helsing schtick. The special effects even look fine, despite the usual complaints. I'll certainly try and catch this next year...

Oh, and for the record Mr B Shaun of the Dead is an underappreciated gem... and dogs CAN look up.

The Wolfman (2010) - Trailer

Hi again faithful fright fans.
Hope I'm not treading on any toes here but Mr B's previous post spurred me to finding this (it wasn't easy) and I thought I would share it with you. I'll be honest I've been acutely aware of this movie for a while but it hadn't grabbed my interest, until now. It's good in a way to see Universal revisit the old horror classics of their monster mashing heyday but I'm still not convinced the character can be shocking or relevant enough for a world that seems to have moved on beyond this, plus some of the cliche elements seem ridiculously hokey, I can't be the only one who thought of scenes being almost humourous that have been so readily parodied (the curse, the gypsy woman, the moors etc). That said I wasn't aware until now that the writer is someone I greatly admire, one Andrew Kevin Walker, and the film does look good, also check out that cast (Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving) all completely stepping up to the top of their game, if this preview is any indication. Yup, atmospheric and evocative with genuine emotion, thanks Mr B, the geek radar is definitely registering interest now. Check it out for yourselves...

The Wolfman - First Thoughts

Del Toro is the man - he is THE MAN. This trailer proves it. The fact is, it's made better by the fact that Anthony Hopkins is in it too. I didn't realise that it was actually going to be a period piece, which makes the idea behind The Wolfman even more exciting. I, for one, cannot wait to see this. An intense, gothic film is no doubt waiting to be enjoyed.
